The syringes are used to discuss how your team is affected by Covid-19. Use it to ask your team “What do you need?”. This can be used as an energizer, as a part of a retrospective or as a short retrospective in itself.
It can be a way to make the team focus on how they feel about next sprint rather than what they think.
Materials
Pros
- Focusses on how team members feel rather than what they think.
- Fast and easy, but with a potential to go in depth.
- Can be used on all team sizes.
- Requires no little preparation and almost no explanation.
Cons
- If you use this as an entire retrospective, please notice that there is no build-it system for actions and follow-up on actions. If you want to keep actions, then the scrum master can create a list of actions and who is responsible for them. You could also consider combining this with another retrospective.
Duration
5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on how you use it and the size of your team.
Preparation
Share a screen with the picture or copy the picture to the application you use for retrospective. It can easily be added to a whiteboard or a slideshow.
Also you might want to prepare some way to take notes of realizations or actions that needs to be done. See the How page for more information.
Step-by-step
- Each team member decides which vaccine they need the most.
- Make sure everyone has time to elaborate to their choice. Don’t be afraid of a bit of silence. If you wish to, you can answer the question at the bottom: Which “vaccine” should we develop next?
Optional questions:
- Which of these would make your work life easier?
- If you cannot choose, which “injection” would you want first?
- Which one would make you most happy?
- Would you choose differently if you look at long term vs short term?
